BNP boycotts Daudkandi upazila polls

COMILLA: BNP boycotted upazila election partway through voting in Daudkandi in accusation of vote rigging and other irregularities on Saturday.

The BNP-supported candidates made the announcement of vote boycott at a press conference held in upazila unit of BNP office at 12:30pm.

However, voting began earlier at 8:00am at 95 centers across the upazila.

Masum Reza, chief agent of BNP-backed chairman contender Abul Hashem, alleged that leaders and activists of Chhatra League and Juba League, the student and youth wings of ruling Awami League, have occupied several polling stations with the help of local administration.

‘They have ousted us from the poll centers before the voting,’ Reza also alleged.

‘So, we have boycotted the election as it has tuned into a farce,’ he added.

However, a total of 2.38 lakh and 54 voters are expected to cast their votes in Daudkandi upazila election.
