DHAKA: At least 156 people, including 10 activists of BNP and its major ally Jamaat-e-Islami were arrested in Jessore, Satkhira and Gaibandha districts on Monday.
Jessore district police control room sources said that 78 persons, including three BNP activists, were arrested in Jessore district in drives conducted from Sunday night to Monday morning.
The arrestees are accused in several cases, including of violence, the sources added.
Moreover, police arrested 53 persons, including three activists of Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir conducting drives in different parts of the district.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Satkhira district police special branch (SB) inspector Emdad Hossain said that the arrestees are accused in several cases, including of vandalism.
Meanwhile, police sent 25 persons, including four Jamaat activists, to jail through court in Gaibandha on Monday morning.
The arrestees were held in drives conducted from Sunday night to Monday morning across the district.
District additional police super (ASP) Mosharraf Hossain told banglanews that the arrestees are accused in several cases, including of creating violence in the district.
