GAZIPUR: Declining bail, a Gazipur court on Monday sent Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayor Professor Abdul Mannan to jail.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Farzana Haque issued the order when Joydebpur Thana Police produced him before the court after completing one-day remand at noon.

However, police arrested Professor Abdul Mannan from his residence in Dhaka on February 11.

There were five cases lodged against him including of arson attack and killing helper of a bus.

Police took him one-day remand in three cases. A chargesheet was submitted to the court against him in a case while police are processing chargesheets in four other cases.
