Hasina’s Homecoming Day Sunday

DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) has chalked out a weeklong program to celebrate Prime Minster and also AL president Sheikh Hasina’s returning home that falls on Sunday (May 17).

However, AL and its associate organizations started celebrating the day from Saturday. A discussion will be held at Engineers Institution auditorium at 3:30pm today.

AL presidium member and also Jatiya Sangsad deputy leader Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury will chair the program, to be attended by senior AL leaders and noted intellectuals.

Party leaders will meet the PM at her Ganabhaban residence in the evening of May 17. Earlier at 2:30pm, AL student affiliate Bangladesh Chhatra League will arrange a rally on Central Shaheed Minar premises. Commerce minister and also AL advisory council member Tofail Ahmed will be present as chief guest at the rally.

Moreover, a discussion will be held at 12:00pm on May 18. AL agriculture and cooperatives affairs secretary Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzak will be present as chief guest.

Awami Sechchhasebok League will arrange a discussion at Diploma Engineers Institution auditorium at 4:00pm on the day. Industries minister and also AL advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu will be present as chief guest at the discussion.

Jatiya Shramik League will organize a discussion, to be attended by AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif as chief guest, at National Press Club auditorium at 10:00am on May 19.

A discussion, to be organized by Mahila Awami League, will also be held at 4:00pm at the same venue on the day.

Bangladesh Krishak League will arrange a discussion, to be attended by industries minister Amir Hossain Amu as chief guest, at 10:00am at National Press Club auditorium while Bangladesh Awami Jubo League will organize a discussion, to be attended by commerce minister Tofail Ahmed as chief guest, at Mahanagar Natyamancha in city at 3:00pm on May 20.

Peshajibi Samannay Parishad will arrange a discussion at Supreme Court Ainjibi Samiti Bhaban auditorium at 3:30pm on May 21. Bridges minister and also AL presidium member Obaidul Qader will be present as chief guest.

Moreover, a procession will be organized at 3:30pm on the concluding day, 22 May. The procession will begin from Suhrawardi Uddyan and end in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi.

However, Sheikh Hasina returned home on May 17 in 1981 as she and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana were staying abroad during the massacre of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his family members on August 15 in 1975.
