Decision to resign from cabinet after discussion

DHAKA:  Opposition leader of the parliament Raushan Ershad said they would discuss with party’s decision-making forum on whether party lawmakers to resign from the cabinet.

She addressed a view exchange meeting with journalists in Jatiya Sangshad media center on Sunday afternoon.

Raushan said her party has yet to take any decision regarding the resignation from the cabinet due to the unrest, including BNP-Jamaat’s violence.

Now, all of the Jatiya Party (JP) lawmakers will sit on a meeting soon and decision in this regard will be informed, she added.

Regarding the trace out of BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, the head of the JP parliamentary body said, after Salahuddin’s return, all information will be cleared whether he was abducted or willingly went to Meghalaya state of India.

The opposition leader further said the issue would be discussed in the upcoming budget session in the parliament.

Referring to the media, she said, “The news published in the media about the conflict between Ershad and me was baseless. I do not have any conflict with him.”

"Recently Ershad had eye surgery, I visited the hospital to see him," the Mymensingh-4 constituency MP added.

Regarding the recently held city corporation elections, Raushan Ershad said, "As there was no killing incident reported during the polls, the voting was held in fair manner."

JP has lost the election because of its organizational weakness, she said.

According to Raushan, it is a great success that JP still survives though has been away from state power for more than 25 years. The party may get thanks for its survival.”

Opposition chief whip M Tajul Islam Chowdhury, presidium member Kazi Firoz Rashid, state minister for labor and employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu, state minister for rural development and cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, MPs Shawkat Chowdhury and Abu Hossain were present at the meeting.
