AL pays tribute to Ivy Rahman

DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies paid their rich tributes to former AL women affairs secretary Ivy Rahman marking her 11th death anniversary on Monday.

Senior AL leaders led by presidium member Sahara Khatun placed floral wreaths at Banani Graveyard in city this morning.

On August 24 in 2004, Ivy Rahman, who was a victim of the August 21 grenade blasts, succumbed to her injuries at city’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

AL organizing secretary Ahmad Hossain, office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, relief and social welfare affairs secretary Faridur Nahar Laily, information and research affairs Afzal Hossain, member Sujit Ray Nandi, among others, were present during the tribute paying program.

Moreover, leaders and activists of Juba League led by its chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury, Swechchasebok League led by general secretary Pankaj Debnath, Chhatra League led by president Saifur Rahman Sohag, family members led by Ivy Rahman’s son and also Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papan, ‘21 August Bangladesh Sangathan’ led-by Dhaka University VC professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Mahila AL led by president Ashrafunnesa Mosharraf separately paid tribute to Ivy Rahman.  

Meanwhile, women and children affairs ministry and other organizations also placed floral wreaths at her grave to mark the day.

Papan said, “We were disappointed for ‘Jaj Mia drama’ and other remarks related to the incident. But now we hope that the trial will be complete during the tenure of this AL government”.
