Jamaat leader dies at KMCH prison cell

KHULNA: A thana unit amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, who was imprisoned at Khulna district jail, has died at prison cell of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Sunday night.

The dead was identified as M Akramuzzaman Raja, 55, Amir of Labanchara Thana unit Jamaat, resided at Azad master road in the city.

Khulna district jail sources said the Jamaat leader was imprisoned in sabotage case. He was taken to KMCH prison cell as he complained with chest pain around 8:15am where he died later.
 
Superintendent of Khulna district jail M Kamrul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He landed in jail after being arrested on September 27 in a case filed under special power act 1974, he added.

The jail super further said that after completing the autopsy, his body will be handed over to family on Monday.
