THAKURGAON: BNP Senior Joint-Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Wednesday claimed his party opened the path of democracy in the country.

“It was BNP which opened the path of democracy in Bangladesh. Democracy was destroyed by those who speak of democracy round the clock,” he said while addressing as chief guest a discussion meeting here marking BNP’s founding anniversary.

Presided over by district BNP general secretary Taimur Rahman, the programme was also addressed by joint secretary Obaidullah Masud, organizing secretary Paigam Ali and poura mayor Shahed Kamal.

Earlier in the day, a procession was brought out from the district BNP office, led by Mirza Fakhrul, which paraded the main thoroughfares of the northern town.
