DHAKA: BNP vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury has resigned from the party.
Shamsher Mobin told the media that he has sent a resignation letter to the party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday night.
He also sent a letter to party chairperson Khaleda Zia in this regard.
However, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told banglanews that he has not received any such letter till 11:30am Thursday and choose not to speak more.
On the other hand, Shamsher Mobin, around 12:00pm told banglanews that Mirza Fakhrul himself received the resignation letter.
The former vice-chairman of BNP also said that he has chosen to retire from politics due to health condition.
He further said, “As you all know, I am an injured freedom fighter; I have chosen to retire with immediate effect as I am no more healthy enough to continue my political career”.
Ex-defense person Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury was appointed as foreign secretary by BNP-Jamaat alliance government during 2001-2005.
He was elected as party vice-chairman in 2009.
