Jessore mayor, among 6 sent to jail

JESSORE: A district court has sent six BNP leaders including Jessore municipality mayor and also city BNP president Maruful Islam to jail.

Senior judicial magistrate Abu Ibrahim passed the order on Sunday noon after rejecting the bail plea of the accused of a violence case.

Earlier in the day, they surrendered before the court.

The other BNP leaders are Jessore district BNP vice-president Rafiqur Rahman Toton, organizing secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon, joint secretary Abdus Salam, BNP standing committee member and also former minister Tariqul Islam’s son and also district committee member Anindya Islam Amit and Jessore municipality ward councilor Azizul Kamal Sweet.

Jessore court police officer-in-charge (OC) Rezaul Islam told banglanews that police on October 5 filed two violence cases against 65 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists including former minister Tariqul Islam.

They surrendered before the court at noon and appealed for bail, he said.

Defend lawyer Advocate Shahid Iqbal told banglanews that they will to the High Court for bail.
