DHAKA: Saira Mohsin, widow of social welfare minister Syed Mohsin Ali, has been nominated as Awami League (AL) candidate for Moulvibazar-3 by election, scheduled to be held on December 8.

The nomination has been finalized after an interview with Awami League Parliamentary Board (ALPB) held at Ganobhaban, Prime Minister’s official residence, on Sunday night.

A press release singed by AL office secretary Abdus Sobhan disclosed the matter.

ALPB president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

According to press release, 25 hopefuls submitted nomination forms for AL tickets for the by poll.

The election commission set December 8 as voting day in the  by-election to the Moulvibazar-3 constituency.

According to poll schedule, the last date of nomination paper submission will be November 11 while the last date of withdrawal of candidacy will be November 22.

However, the constituency was announced vacant as former social welfare minister Syed Mohsin Ali died at a Singapore hospital in on September 14.
