DHAKA: The appellate division canceled the High Court (HC) order that asked Tangail-3 constituency MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana and his brother Tangail municipality mayor Shahidur Rahman Mukti to surrender before court in freedom fighter Faruk killing case.

The three-member bench of the Supreme Court led by senior justice Nazmun Ara Sultana passed the order on Thursday, settling down the leave to appeal filed by the state.

After today’s order, there is no bar to arrest MP Rana, said deputy attorney general Ekramul Haque Tutul.

On January 18, police recovered bullet-riddled body of district Awami League leader Faruk Ahmed.

Later, his wife Nahar Ahmed filed a murder case with Tangail Sadar Thana.

On July 14, the HC directed law enforcers not to harass or arrest MP Rana without “due legal procedures”.
