DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) suspended returning officer in Kolaroa municipality M Abul Hossian for misuse of power and violation of law in discharging election duty.

EC senior assistant secretary M Sabed Ur Rahman issued the order in this regard on Sunday (December 20).

According the order, Abul Hossain, also additional election officer of Khulna region, violated law and misused of power as returning officer.

He accepted nomination form of Kolaroa upazila vice-chairman Aminul Islam violating law which is the misuse of power.

Moreover, the returning offer also declared his nomination paper valid. But an Upazila Parishad post holder can not submit nomination form.

So, the commission initially withdrew the returning officer from the post and later suspended him.

However, voting will be held in 234 municipalities on December 30.
