DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad categorically said that there will be no army deployment in upcoming municipal polls.
He made this assertion while talking to the media at his Election Commission (EC) secretariat in city Tuesday evening.
Earlier, a six-member BNP delegation, by its standing committee member Dr Abdul Moin Khan, demanded the government to deploy army to keep law and order situation normal during the municipal polls.
However, elections will be held at 234 municipality areas. As many as 923 mayoral candidates and 1,122 councilors will vie in the polls to be held on December 30.
