DHAKA: The ruling Awami League from its highest forum meeting Friday called upon the boycotting opposition to return to parliament and speak about government’s failings inside the House.

General Secretary of the ruling party Syed Ashraful Islam conveyed the call from a press briefing after the AL presidium meeting on Friday evening.

In reply to the complaint of opposition leader Khaleda Zia that the government has failed in every respect, Ashraf said, “BNP must wait till the next election as the people elected Awami League for five years.”

“It’ll be unconstitutional if one tries to oust the government even a day before its term ends,” said the AL General Secretary, also LGRD Minister.

He also invited the main opposition party, BNP, to join the parliamentary committee assigned to the task of amending the Constitution and give its opinion.

Earlier, the presidium meeting presided over by premier and AL President Sheikh Hasina began at 7:30pm at Ganabhaban.

The meeting decided that Syed Sajeda Chowdhury would be the acting president of the party during the US tour of Sheikh Hasina from Saturday.

Syed Sajeda Chowdhury, Matia Chowdhury, Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, among others, were present at the meeting.
