Gulshan attack mastermind dies in Azimpur raid

FROM AZIMPUR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque said the dead militant Abdul Karim was the mastermind of Gulshan attack.

Moreover, one of the detained women is allegedly the wife of militant Major (retd) Zahid who was killed in another police raid in Mirpur’s Rupnagar.

The IGP made the remarks to the media after visiting the spot near BGB Gate-2 in city’s Azimpur area on Saturday night (September 10).

While talking to media, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Sanowar Hossain said the militant committed suicide during the raid and other three female militants tried to do same.

Sanowar Hossain, also the chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit’s Bomb Disposal Unit, said the injured female militants have been taken to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Acting on a tip-off that some militants are living in the second floor of the six-story building in Azimpur area, the law enforcers conducted the drive.

Sensing the presence of police, they attacked on the law enforcers with grenades and chili powder, leaving five constables injured.

After the end of raid around 9:15pm, police recovered four pistols and 50 rounds of bullets from the house, the ADC added.
