JMB leader Asadul executed

KHULNA: Asadul Islam Arif, a leader of a banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), was hanged to death in Khulna district jail on Sunday night (October 16) for killing two judges in Jhalakati.

Super of Khulna district jail Kamrul Islam told Banglanews that the convict was executed at 10:30 pm.

Khulna deputy commissioner Nazmul Ahsan, deputy inspector of prison Tipu Sultan, additional magistrate Nur-e-Alam, civil surgeon Dr ASM Abdur Razzaq, Khulna district jail jailor Jannatul Farhad, and police and RAB high-ups were present here.

Meanwhile, Asadul Islam Arif was buried at Udaipur Uttar Kandi graveyard in Mollahat upazilla of Bagerhat, near the house of his father-in-law early Monday.

On November 14 of 2005, senior assistant judges Sohel Ahammed and Jagannath Pare were killed in a suicide bomb attack in Purba Chadkati area of Jhalakathi town.

On May 29, 2006, Jhalakathi additional district and session judge Reza Tariq Ahammed sentenced to death of seven JMB leaders.

The convict were JMB founder Shaykh Abdur Rahman, military head Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai, majlis-e-shura members Ataur Rahman Sunny, Abdul Awal Molla alias Omar alias Shakil Ahmed, son-in-law of Sheikh Rahman, Amjad Hossain alias Khalid Saifullah, suicide bomber Iftekhar Hasan Al Mamun and Asadur Rahman Arif.

Six of the convicts were already executed.
