4 JMB men held in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT: Police detained four members of banned extremist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Kachua upazilla of the district early Tuesday (October 25).

Three police members sustained injuries as the JMB members threw crude bombs aiming the cops during the drive conducted at Khalishakhali village of the upazilla around 2:15am.

The detainees were identified as Akash, 19; Habibullah, 19; Kabirul, 26; and Mizanur Rahman, 28; hailing from Bagerhat and Pirojpur districts.

Bagerhat police super Pankaj Chandra Roy told Banglanews that acting on tip-off they conducted a drive at the house of one Safayet Sheikh in the village where 12/13 JMB men were planning to create sabotage.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, they threw crude bombs, leaving three police members injured, he added.

In response, police opened firing. At a stage, four JMB men were detained as most of them managed to flee the scene, he added.

Pankaj Chandra Roy further said police also seized a revolver, two rounds of bullets and five crude bombs from the scene.
