No alternative of talks in democracy

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday (October 27) commented that there is no alternative of talks in reestablishing democracy and ensuring a fair national election.

He made the remark while talking to the media after paying tribute to the tomb of former president and also party founder Ziaur Rahman at city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on the occasion of 38th founding anniversary of party’s youth wing Jubo Dal.

Responding to the ‘no-talks with BNP’ comment of ruling Awami League’s newly elected general secretary Obaidul Quader, Mirza Fakhrul said, “We had seen earlier that the ruling party men always opine of this kind, but in reality they call us for discussion”.

According to the BNP leader, discussion is needed with all political parties for reestablishing democracy as well as ensuring a free and fair general election in the country.

“There is no alternative of dialogue in this regard,” he stated.

Jubo Dal acting president Albert P Costa, secretary general Saiful Alam Nirab, joint secretary general Ali Akbar Chunnu and executive members HM Saif Ali Khan and Gias Uddin Mamun, among others, were present during the tribute paying ceremony.
