SYLHET: The Sylhet-Teknaf road march protesting atrocities on Rohingyas in Rakhine State of Myanmar will begin on Thursday (September 21).

‘Humanity for Rohingya Bangladesh’, a platform floated for raising voice for repressed Rohingyas, called the road-march program. Chairman of the platform Advocate Maulana Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury, a former MP of Sunamganj, announced the program.
   
According to the announcement, the road-march towards Teknaf will begin at 10:00 am from Humayun Rashid Chatwar of Sylhet with the caravan of over thousands of vehicles. Eminent Islamic scholar Allama Adbul Momin Imambari will inaugurate the program.

The road-march will reach Teknaf on Friday (September 22) covering Habiganj, Comilla, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar. Roadside rallies will be held in different places of the road-march route. The final rally will be held in Teknaf in the afternoon.    

Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury at a press conference at a hotel in Sylhet city on Wednesday (September 20) briefed about the road-march program. He placed eight-point demand over Rohingya issue.  

Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury called upon all to make the program a success in stopping repression and genocide on Rohingyas. He thanked the government for permitting the road-march.

Coordinator of the road-march Col (retd) Ataur Rahman Peer and members of the road-march implementation committee also attended the press conference.  

About 410,000 Rohingya refugees entered Bangladesh, escaping the ethnic cleansing conducted by Myanmar army and Buddhists in the country's Rakhine State began on August 25.

At least 1000 people have been killed in the operation of the Mynamar army.

About a million Rohingya lived in Rakhine State until the recent violence. Most face travel restrictions and are denied citizenship in Myanmar.
