DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Wednesday (December 6) sent 24 leaders and activists of BNP to jail, over carrying out vandalism and arson attack in Dhaka.
The accused were rejected bail plea by the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
On Tuesday (December 5), some vehicles were vandalized and arson attack was carried out in Shahbagh and Ramna thana areas while BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was returning after appearing before the court in graft cases.
Police nabbed the 24 leaders and activists of BNP including its youth wing Jubo Dal and student wing Chhatra Dal from the spot, said DMP Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Maruf Hossain Sardar.
As many as 150 leaders and activists including BNP Joint Secretary and Dhaka City South President Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel were accused in five separate cases filed over the mayhem and obstructing police duty on that day.
However, police sought 10-day remand for each of the 24, who are facing case filed under explosive act. The court fixed December 10 for the hearing upon remand plea.
