RAJSHAHI: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Chhatra Shibir, was observed in four districts of Rajshahi division on Sunday.
The student wing of Jamaat enforced the shutdown protesting the arrest of its eight leaders, including Rajshahi University secretary Saifuddin Yahiya.
The hartal supporters set fire in Talaimari in the divisional city at around 6:00am. Without the incident, no picketer was seen in other points of the metropolis from morning due to rain at around 7:00am.
At the same time, pickets put road blockade on some points of Pabna-Kushtia highway.
Meanwhile, law enforcers took position on various important points of the city and but no untoward situation was reported till the report was filing.
Though long route vehicles were not plying on the streets, but rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, motorbikes and light vehicles were seen plying, banglanews correspondent reports.
Besides, intercity and locals train services remained normal.
Police and RAB personnel took position in different key points of city.
Besides, hartal was observed peacefully in Pabna, Natore and Chapainawabganj districts.
On Thursday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive held eight Shibir leaders including Rajshahi University Secretary Saifuddin Yahiya from Malopara area of the town.
