TANGAIL: A local Awami League leader was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in Gopalpur upazila of Tangail on early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam Talukder Nixon, 48, former general secretary of the union Awami League, son of Alauddin Talukder, hailing from Ajgara village at Hadira union of the upazila.

Quoting local, police said Aminul was returning home at 11:30 pm on his motorbike when unidentified miscreants hacked him indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, leaving him injured.

Later around 12:30 am, locals took the injured to Madhupur Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

Gopalpur Circle additional police super Amir Khasru confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

The body was sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.
