Sculpture issue: defamation case against Khaleda, Tarique dismissed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman

A Dhaka court on Thursday dismissed a defamation case against six people including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman, and Hefazat chief Junayed Babunagari for speaking against Bangabandhu's sculpture.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder passed the order as he did not find sufficient ground to file the case.

The court's bench assistant Sirajul Islam confirmed the information to Banglanews.

Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddique filed the plea for lodging case with the court on Wednesday morning.

The court recorded the plaintiff's statements and kept it pending for order.

The other accused were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Hefazat-e-Islam Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh Senior Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim.

In the case, charges were brought against them under sections 500/506/427/109 of the Penal Code.
