The story of Jomir Uddin Parvez

Jomir Uddin Parvez, was born on September 10, 1973 at Raozan Municipality, Chittagong District. He is the son of late Nurul Haque Chowdhury and late Lutfar Nessa born in the house of Fakir Takiya Sultan Ahmed Chowdhury in Ward 9 at Raozan Municipility.

Mr Parvez has been involved in student politics since his student life. His love for the country grew when he heard the story of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the war of liberation from his Mother and Grandfather Professor Mohammad Khaled.

Parvez was a colorful student leader. While doing Politics under Bangladesh Awami League he has been tortured many times by the oppositions. He served as Chittagong North District BCL Vice President (2002), Asistant Secretary (1999), Raozan Upazila BCL President (2003), Publicity Secretary (1995), Raozan College BCL President (1993), General Secretary (1991), Raozan Union BCL Vice-President (1991) and vice-president of Raozan Suresh Vidyalaya Chhatra League (1987).

Presently he is serving as an executive member of Raozan Upazila Awami League and the President of Upazila Juba League. He also have been elected as the nominated candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in Raozan municipal election.

As the mayor of the municipality, he is faithfully fulfilling his responsibilities. For his public welfare works, Parvez has been awarded the National Medal by the Honourable Prime Minister several times.

In recognition to his special contribution in the field of education, he received the National Primary Education Medal 2012 as the best president of the country. On the other hand in the year of 2014 he received the Prime Minister's National Award for his special contribution in tree planting and environmental protection, and again received award in 2019 in the same category.

He visited Singapore in 2015 under the supervision of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and obtained the certificate with distinction.

Mr Parvez was elected a councilor for the first time in the municipal elections held in 1999 during the foundation of Raozan municipality and later served as a councilor in 2004, 2010 and 2014 respectively.

He was shot during the Raozan College Student Parliament elections and was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for two months in 1992. During that time the then Leader of the Opposition, Awami League President and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the hospital twice to monitor his condition and made sure he gets proper treatment. Although he survived but still he is carrying the wounds in the place where he was shot.

Despite the torture and oppression, he has lived a political life from being involved in politics of the Awami League. He did not lose hope even after suffering so much in life. He is writing impeccable stories with new enthusiasm. A message to the younger generation, `It is not over until it is over!
