UP Election: 2 killed, 30 injured in Narsingdi clash

Two persons were killed and at least 30 injured as two groups locked in a clash over establishing dominance amid Union Parishad elections in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district early Thursday.

The deceased Hiron Mia, 35, son of Ashraf Mia, and Sabir Mia, 26, son of Marfot Ali were residents of Kacharkandi village.

The clash ensued in the morning between one group led former UP member Shah Alam and another led by choto (junior) Shah Alam in the village.

Later, both the groups opened fire at each other leaving Hiron and Sabir, members of the second group, shot dead on the spot.

OC Azizur Rahman of the Raipura Police Station confirmed the matter.

After being on the run for a long time, the Shah Alam member and his supporters returned to the village in the morning, he said, adding then they attacked the opponent (Choto Shah Alam).

The injured were rescued and admitted to different hospitals in Raipura and Narsingdi, he added.
