CHITTAGONG: A long tailback created as Jamaat-Shibir activists put a blockade on Dhaka-Chittagong highway protesting arrest of 19 activists of the party on Friday.

Local sources said the activists of Jamaat locked into a fierce clash with police around 10:30 am as they vandalized 12 vehicles at Sitakunda upazila protesting the arrest of 19 activists on Thursday last.

They were allegedly involved with arson, torching and vandalisms during the 60-hour hartal called 18-party alliance.

Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Thana SM Badiuzzaman told banglanews: “We are trying to remove the blockades in different parts of the highway.”

Additional police personnel were deployed in to avert further untoward situation, he added.
