DHAKA: The full verdict given by the High Court declaring the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami illegal as political party was published on Saturday.

The concerned department of HC made public the verdict after signing the all three justices who passed the verdict.

Jamaat lawyer Barrister Belatyet Hossain told banglanews, “We were informed about the matter. We appealed before the appellate division of the Supreme Court challenging the verdict and also plea seeking stay order by 60 days as per law.”

On August 1, the High Court declared the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami illegal as political party and asked the Election Commission to cancel the registration of the party.

A larger HC bench comprising Justices M Moazzem Hossain, M Enayetur Rahim, Kazi Reza-Ul-Haq passed the verdict.

On June 12, the same bench concluded the proceedings of the case fixing no date and time for the verdict.

Bangladesh Tariqat Federation’s secretary general Rezaul Haque Chandpuri and 24 others filed the petition on January 25, 2009.

A division bench of the HC headed by Justice ABM Khairul Haque on January 27, 2009 issued a rule asking the Election Commission and Jamaat authorities to explain why the registration of the party should not be declared illegal.

Barrister Tania Amir appeared for the writ petitioners while Barrister Abdur Razzaq argued for Jamaat and Advocate Mohsen Rashid represented EC.

Hearing of the petition began on April 9. The EC listed Jamaat as a registered political party on November 4, 2008.
