(Kyle Verreynne 114, Wiaan Mulder 54, Dane Piedt 32, Tony de Zorzi 30, Ryan Rickelton 27, Tristan Stubbs 23; Taijul Islam 5/122, Hasan Mahmud 3/66, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 2/63)

Team Tigers after conceding a massive first innings lead of 202 and losing two top order batsmen Shadman Islam and Mominul Haq with four runs on the board was looking down the barrel. Shadman and Mominul once again fell to contain the fast-seaming deliveries of Rabada. When bad light stopped play Bangladesh was 101/3 still 101 runs behind. At least Bangladesh did not crumble like the 1st innings.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy (38*), the only batsman showing some application in the first innings pairing with captain Nazmul Shanto (23) tried resisting adding 53 runs for the third wicket. Once Shanto was removed by Keshav Maharaj, Bangladesh little master Mushfique showing his skills stitched an unbeaten partnership of 42 desperately tried to salvage some pride for Bangladesh. Earlier South Africa starting the day at 140/6 played superbly taking their score to 308 all out. The two not out batsmen of day one Kayle Verreynne (114) and Wilaan Mulder (55) adding 119 runs for the 7th wicket partners almost batted Bangladesh out of the match. On a turning wicket against quality spin attack the two little known Protean batted superbly playing each delivery to their merit. Verreynne scored an excellent century. Who knows their partnership may prove match winning in the ultimate analysis of the test. Mulder got out scoring 54 but Verreynne stayed with Dean Piedt (32) added another 66 runs for the 9th wicket extending the lead beyond 200. Taijul bowling tight almost entire day from one end kept things tight without adding to his tallies of 5 wickets he took on day one. Hasan Mahmud kept his reputation bright chipping in with two quick wickets with brilliant deliveries. Mehidi Miraj finally wrapped up the innings taking the last 2 wickets. Can not say wicket improved much but Bangladesh bowlers failed to bowl consistently at right length and line. Protean also batted superbly. Verreynne struck 8 fours and 2 sixes in his innings of 114 which can turn out as the match defining innings of the test.

Bangladesh's top order was expected not to repeat the mistakes of the first innings. But the way Shadman and Mominul got blown away by Rabada beggars’ description. Wonder when Bangladesh batsmen will learn playing well against seaming red cheery. At 4/2 Bangladesh was looking miserable.  It was encouraging that Mahmudul Hasan Joy kept his composure. Nazmul Shanto gave him company till he failed against a sharp arm ball of Keshav Maharaj trapping him right in from. The pair steadied the rocking boat adding 53 runs. Mushfique joining stubborn Joy kept the fight going.

Bangladesh was 101/3 when bad light stopped the play. Having 7 second innings wicket at hand Bangladesh still have go a long way to stay in the game. First, they need overhauling the deficit and then set a target of at least 150 plus to make a match of it. The day belonged to the tourists. Bangladesh missed the services of a second pacers possibly Nahid Rana.
