New Zealand's tour of Bangladesh postponed

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have jointly decided to postpone the upcoming Test series in August-September this year due to coronavirus pandemic.

New Zealand was supposed to come to Bangladesh to play two matches of the ICC World Test Championship. The two boards will now work on fixing a suitable time to reschedule the series.

BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said on Tuesday said, in the present COVID-19 situation, arrangement of a full cricket series in August 2020 will be a challenge in terms of preparations. “We cannot take chances with the safety and health of players, support staff and related stakeholders,” he added.

He also said BCB and NZC have agreed to defer the series, though this will be disappointing for the players, officials and fans of both teams.

“We must thank NZC for its understanding and for recognising the grounds behind the decision,” he added.
