Country’s top-flight professional football club and former champions of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited held its annual general meeting on Saturday at the city’s Bashundhara area.
The AGM was chaired by club chairman and Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
Sayem Sobhan delivered the welcome speech there while director-in-charge Ismat Jamil Akanda presented annual reports and sports director Saleh Jaman Selim audit reports from 2013 to 2019.
Club chairman Sayem Sobhan said that he would form the club's cricket team soon.
Sayem Sobhan said, ‘Football and cricket are popular games in the country. Sheikh Russel will continue to work for the betterment of these games. A strong team will be formed to achieve success. The process of forming the cricket team will start after the election.’
He also said, "We want to be in a strong position in football and cricket. Let me know your opinions in this regard. As success requires unity, I will keep it up as long as I am in charge of the chairman. There might be difference of opinion in the organization. But we are one and united in the case of Sheikh Russell. Remember, not only federations, clubs have a lot of role to play in the development of sports. What we have done before, we will do in the future too. Sheikh Russell is a great power in the sports arena."
Besides, the club’s board members decided to appoint auditors in the meeting. “According to a court directive, we completed all pending AGMs from 2013 to 2019 on Saturday.
Later, director-in-charge Ismat Jamil Akanda presented annual reports and I presented all audit reports from 2013 to 2019,” Saleh Jaman Selim said after the AGM.
“Sheikh Russel is a ‘Limited Company’, so according to the rules, the club has to arrange an AMG each year. But the then president Nurul Alam Chawdhury did nothing. The tenure of the present committee will end on December 31, so we needed to complete all pending AGMs with the direction of the court before the expiry. The board also decided to appoint an auditor in the meeting,” the sports director further added.
