Major General AKM Nazmul Hasan has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) on Sunday (Jan 29). 

He took over the duties of the Director General from the outgoing Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed at the BGB headquarters at Philkhana in the city.

Prior to his new assignment Maj Gen AKM Nazmul Hasan served as Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP).

He was the General Staff Officer Grade-3 (Training) at School of Infantry and Tactics, Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General of a Composite Brigade, Deputy Provost Marshal at Army Headquarters. He also served as Colonel General Staff, Cumilla, Detachment Commander of Dhaka and Director of Counter Intelligence Bureau at Directorate General of Forces Intelligence Headquarters. 

Maj Gen Nazmul also served in Chittagong Hill Tracts for Counter Insurgency Operation in 1992 and 1997 at Rangamati Region. Major General Nazmul commanded two Infantry Battalions, One Military Police Unit and one Infantry Brigade. He also served as General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Bogura Area.
