Pahela Falgun, Valentine’s Day being celebrated 

Pahela Falgun, a festival welcoming the advent of spring, is being celebrated across the country by wearing yellow dresses, flower-made ornaments and holding traditional musical functions.

Pahela Falgun, also called Basanta Utsab, is the first day of Bengali month of Falgun. 

The spring is portrayed as the king of all seasons in poetry for its extra-ordinary beauty of nature.

After the dryness of winter, new leaves start to sprout again and the nature adorns the branches with new colorful flowers like Shimul, Polash and Marigold. 

Since 2020, the day is being coincided with Valentine’s Day on February 14 which has also become a major day in celebration of the festival-loving Bangalees especially the youths.

Clad in yellow sarees and panjabis, people specially the youths generally visit Dhaka University campus, which is considered the focal point of the celebration, Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, Rabindra Sarobar, Dhanmondi Lake, Hatirjheel and different other places in the capital.

There are various arrangements in the capital to welcome the spring. Different socio-cultural organisations will hold various programmes, including music festivals, on the Dhaka University campus throughout the day. 
 
Marking the days, various restaurants, almost everywhere in the country, have arranged special offers for the customers. Flower markets are busy stocking red roses for the day.
