The average life expectancy of the country's people has decreased to 72.3 years from 72.8 years, according to a survey of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
“The fall in life expectancy is very insignificant. The fall may be caused by Covid 19 deaths because the covid also increased death rate in the country,” said Alamgir Hossain, the project director, while presenting highlights of the report.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday unveiled latest demographic information called Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics. It termed the fall in life expectancy insignificant.
Life expectancy for males was 70.6 years, down from 71.2 in 2020. For females, it was 74.1 years in 2021, down from 74.5 years in 2020. This means women live an average of 3.5 years longer than men.
On the other hand, the crude death rate per 1000 population -- rose from 5.1 years in 2020 to 5.7 years in 2021, according to the latest BBS report.
Planning Minister MA Mannan was the chief guest at the function. Statistics and Information Management Department Secretary Shahnaz Arefin spoke at the function while BBS Director General Motiar Rahman presided over the event.
