As many as 45 villages of Chandpur district are celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr today (April 21) as they prefer to observe holy days in line with Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries.
The villagers are in Hajiganj, Faridganj, Matlab North, Kachua and Shahrasti upazilas.
The main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr was held at Darbar Sharif Jame Mosque in Shadra village of Hajiganj upazila at 9 am.
Late Maulana Ishaque introduced the practice of Eid celebration in Chandpur in line with the celebration in Saudi Arabia in 1931.
Devotees of these villages began fasting on the same date with the people of Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and other middle eastern countries are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today, as the Shawwal moon was sighted on Thursday.
However, Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on Saturday (April 22) if the Shawwal moon is sighted in Bangladesh today (April 21).
The decision will be taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee this evening after reviewing the information of the Shawwal moon sighting.
