Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested five members of the notorious robbery gang 'Sumon Bahini' last night while they were preparing to loot a commercial ship at Pashur Channel, Mongla Sea Port.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md Jony, 19, Aliraj, 25, Swapon Munsi, 40, Md Azim, 26 and Md Mesbah 19, hails from Mongla upazila in Bagerhat and Koyra upazila in Khulna.
Lieutenant Colonel Siam-ul-Haque, the Coast Guard's media spokesperson confirmed the matter.
Acting on a tip-off, the Coast Guard raided the Bhadra area of the Sundarbans, seizing 12 weapons, nine yaba tablets, 25 grams of weed, and a motorized trawler.
The suspects, wanted in several cases, including drug peddling and wildlife smuggling, were handed over to Mongla Police Station today.
