Blaming Indian media for tarnishing Bangladesh’s image globally by spreading misinformation, foreign affairs adviser M Towhid Hossain urged citizens to remain vigilant against such narratives.
He said: "In some cases, they are even attempting to distort the truth. However, other countries are not accepting these claims as fact."
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an event organized by the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) at Paltan Tower in Dhaka on Monday (March 17).
Addressing journalists, he underscored the importance of persistent reporting and said: "Your responsibility does not end with publishing the truth once. You must continue to follow up."
Regarding Bangladesh’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category, he dismissed any possibility of postponement.
"This transition was anticipated long ago, yet previous governments and businesses took little action to prepare. We will graduate from LDC status in 2026—there is no scope for delay," he asserted.
The adviser also addressed the country’s economic challenges, stressing the need for increased revenue generation.
"Bangladesh has one of the lowest tax-to-GDP ratios, which is a matter of concern. We must overcome this. The interim government is committed to taking steps for the country's betterment," he added.
The event was chaired by ERF President Daulat Akhter Mala and moderated by ERF General Secretary Abul Kashem.
Among the speakers were National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Moazzem Hossain (Customs Bond), Cotton Development Board Executive Director Fakre Alam Ibne Tabib, and Bangladesh Cotton Ginners Association General Secretary Golam Saber.
