DHAKA: Leaders and activists of Awami League, Jamaat and Chhatra Dal among seven were killed and many injured in sporadic clashes across the country on Wednesday, the second day of 48-hour 18-party-called blockade.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Jalil, 55, an activist of Jamaat and Masum Billah, 22, organizing secretary of Bera Union Chhatra Dal of Sirajganj, Kamal Hossain, 40, Awami League leader also Kaliganj UP member, Ershad, 25, a three wheeler (Nosimon) driver of Chittagong, Shamsur Rahman, 35, of Shialdanga area of Satkhira, Anwara Begum, 40, a staff of National Bank Malibagh branch, Ambia Khatun, 30, wife of Harunur Rashid of Gapinathpur.
In Sirajganj, Two people, including an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami and a root level leader of Chhatra Dal, were killed in a triangular clash among Awami League, BNP and law enforcers in Belkuchi Upazila of the district town on Wednesday, the second day of 48-hour blockade.
In Chittagong, A man was killed as his three wheeler turned turtle in College bazaar area under Patia Upazila of the district on Wednesday after being chased by picketers.
In Satkhira, an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a clash with police, Rapid Action Batalion and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel in Shialdanga area of the district town early Wednesday.
Besides, a woman was killed after a branch of tree, cut by Shibir men to block road, fell upon her at Gapinathpur under Kolaroa upazila of the district on Wednesday noon.
In Dhaka, a woman succumbed to her injuries, which sustained during the first day’s violence of the 48-hour blockade, at Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Wednesday.
In DHAKA, at least 25 people were injured in a clash between BNP activists and police in Savar, on outskirts of Dhaka city, on Wednesday, the second day of 48-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance.
In Gazipur, a Awami League leader was killed in a clash with BNP men in Kaliganj upazila of the district at around 12:30am
Injured, cocktails, rail tracks uproot
In KHULNA, at least 12 people were injured, two by bullets, in a clash with police and BNP men at PTI intersection of the divisional city at around 8:00am
In NARAYANGANJ, at least 25 people were injured, 10 by byllets in a clash between BNP activists and police during the second day of nonstop 48-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance at around 6:00am.
In Manikganj, at least 30 people, including seven police men, were injured in a clash between BNP leaders and police in the district town at around 11:00am.
Besides, a police man was injured in cocktail blast in old part of Dhaka.
In Chittagong, four people, including a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member and two police men, received bullet injuries in Battola area under Sitakunda Upazila of the district.
Blockade supporters blasted cocktails in different spots of the capital from morning. The protesters exploded six cocktails in city’s Gabtoli area at around 6:30am.
At least 12 cocktails were exploded in city’s Doyaganj area at around 8:300 am.
In Chandpur, Rail communication of Chandpur with other parts of the country halted as blockade supporters uprooted rail slippers in Uyaruk area on Chandpur-Laksam rail route early Wednesday.
Besides, 18-party leaders blocked road putting tree logs at Debpur and bakila points on Chandpur-Comilla highway.
The blockade started from 6:00am Tuesday (November 26) and will continue to 6:00am Thursday demanding restoration of caretaker government and protesting the announcement of poll schedule.
Roads, waterways and railway remained under the blockade programme.
Additional law enforcers along with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed around the country to thwart further sabotage.
