Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday (August 13) said permission for egg import will be given if the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock requests it.
He said the Ministry of Fisheries however didn't seek any egg import permission.
He was responding to a question from reporters at the opening ceremony of the August sale of TCB products at affordable prices in the town hall market of Mohammadpur in the capital.
When asked regarding hiking egg price in the local market the minister said, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has not said anything about how much eggs are being produced, how much demand there is in the market, how much is the shortage.
They did not even say what the cost of production of eggs is and how much the market should set the price, the minister added.
"If the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock gives us the information, the Ministry of Commerce will allow the import of eggs after analyzing the market, Tipu Munshi added.
