Two persons including a woman were arrested for threatening to kill Professor SM Mustafa Zaman of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), a physician of war crimes convict Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, from Jhenaidah and Uttara in the capital on Wednesday.
RAB arrested a person named Tafsirul Islam (23) from Maheshpur in Jhenaidah. On the other hand, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Counter-Terrorism and Transnational (CTTC) arrested a woman named Hafiza Mahbooba Barshi (32) on the same charge from Uttara.
Sayeedi was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for cardiac problem and he breathed his last there on August 14 night.
Hundreds of Jamaat men gathered at hospital area and committed vandalism alleging negligence in treatment. But BSMMU authorities said Sayeedi was given proper treatment. Prof SM Mostafa Zaman of BSMMU cardiac department received death threat from apparently followers of Sayeedi. The physician filed a GD alleging that Sayeedi activists may cause harm to him and his family members.
Al Amin, assistant director RAB (Media Centre), confirmed the arrest. The elite force will give further details through a press conference, he added.
