Bangladesh's inflation surges to 9.92% in August

Inflation in Bangladesh surged to 9.92 percent in August, according to data provided by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Sunday (September 10).

However, the inflation increased by 23 percent compared to the month of July. 

According to BBS, the country's inflation rate rose to 9.92 percent in August, which was 9.52 percent in August last year. In August 2021, it was 5.54 percent. 

In July of this year, the inflation rate was 9.69 percent, 9.74 percent in June and 9.94 percent in May. The inflation rate in last May was the highest in 12 years, according to BBS.

BBS data also said that overall food inflation was 12.54 percent in August. In the previous month i.e. July, this rate was 9.76 percent. Food inflation rose by 2.78 percent in August.
