Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal today (October 26) said that the Election Commission expected a favourable environment in the country for the upcoming general elections but this has not been achieved yet.
He said: "We want to organise the election. As the organiser, we would like to say that the favourable environment we were expecting has not been achieved yet."
Kazi Habibul Awal made the remark while speaking at a workshop titled, "12th Jatiya Sangshad Elections: Role of Mass Media".
The Election Commission organised the event to discuss with senior journalists and editors in a bid to hold free and fair polls in the country.
He said, the Election Commission wants to hold the 12th parliamentary elections by the first week of January next year and the schedule for the election will be announced in the second week of November.
