A group of miscreants have set fire to one passenger bus and vandalized two others in Chattogram early Thursday (November 2) morning, the last day of the three-day nationwide blockade called by BNP, its allies, and Jamaat-e-Islami.
The incident took place at the Chandraghona Lychee orchard area, situated along the Chattogram-Kaptai road, around 4am today.
Chandan Kumar Chakraborty, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rangunia police station confirmed the matter.
The assailants fled the scene before the police arrived, he said.
An investigation is now underway and a case will be registered in connection with the incident, said the OC.
Kamruzzaman Sumon, officer of the Rangunia Fire Service station, said that one of the affected buses, identified as AB Travels, was set ablaze while it was parked by the roadside.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the flames after approximately half an hour of intense effort, said the fire service official.
Earlier on October 29, the BNP and Jamaat announced nationwide blockades for three days starting 31 October to press home their one-point demand of immediate resignation of the ruling government.
