A man was detained with nine gold bars by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Sharsha border of Khulna today (January 3).
The person was identified as Imam Monirul Hossen, 24, was a van driver, hails from Upazila’s Goga area.
Khulna 21 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Khurshid Anwar through a press release confirmed the matter.
He said on the basis of secret information, a suspect youth was arrested. During search, 1.22kg gold recovered from his possession.
The estimated market value of the seized gold bars is around Tk 1.79 crore, said the official, adding a case under the Gold Smuggling Act will be lodged over to Sharsha Police Station.
