DHAKA: M. Jarraud, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), congratulated the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her re-election.

He also expressed his confidence that the collaboration between Bangladesh and WMO will be strengthened in advancing the global climate agenda.

The congratulation came from a message sent to the foreign ministry on Thursday.

In the message, the Secretary General appreciated the implementation of the Cyclone Preparedness Programme by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department which led to a dramatic reduction in casualties from tropical cyclones and storm surges.

Jarraud added that Bangladesh’s role both in the international arena and at home, to advance climate risk management, was a clear demonstration of the commitment of the authorities of Bangladesh under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
