A total of 14 platoon members of Ansar battalion have been deployed in Dhaka to maintain law and order amid student demonstrations continue to escalate.

Ansar and Village Defense Force Assistant Director (VDP Training) and Public Relations Officer Mohammad Rubel Hossain confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Wednesday (17 July) afternoon.

He said around 14 platoons of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Forces, consisting of both male and female members, have been deployed in Dhaka metropolis to manage the current situation.

The educational institutions of the country, including Dhaka University, have been in turmoil for several days demanding reform of quota in government jobs. 

In this last Tuesday (July 16) there was a clash between the demonstrators, police and Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists in Dhaka, Chattogram and Rangpur. 

Following the demonstration six people were killed and hundreds across three districts, including the capital Dhaka.
