JESSORE: A suspected terrorist was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and joint forces at Ziadanga village under Abhaynagar Upazila of the district early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, second in command of Mejba Bahini, son of Abdur Rab.

Abhaynagar Thana officer-in-charge Khabiruddin Mollah told banglanews that on Monday police held Rabiul and according to his information a team of joint forces went the area to recover firearms at around 2:00am.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, cohorts of Rabiul opened fire and in retaliation joint forces personnel also fired back that triggered a gunfight, leaving Rabiul and three police men injured.

Rabiul was sent to upazila health complex where duty doctor declared him dead.

Meanwhile, police recovered a pistol and two rounds bullets from the spot.

The body was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
