Heavy rain flooded streets and homes across the capital early on Tuesday (Sept 3) and exposed Dhaka's poor drainage system yet again.

Commuters who ventured out early for work, school, or other reasons faced significant challenges.

Several CNG-run autorickshaws were stranded in water on certain roads, and in some places, the water rose to the level of rickshaw seats.

Waterlogging was reported in areas such as Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Shewrapara, Malibagh, West Tejturi Bazar, Bangshal, and Tejgaon.

Rafiqul Huq, an employee of a private organization, shared that he had to pay an unusually high fare for a CNG-run autorickshaw to travel from his home in Mirpur 10 to his Purana Paltan office. 

Faruk Hossain, a local trader in Mirpur, said he found no rickshaw to take her son to school as water levels reached up to the knee.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka North City Corporation stated in a Facebook post that its teams were actively working to alleviate the waterlogging problem.

Dhaka had also experienced rain on Monday afternoon, with intermittent showers continuing through the night. However, the downpour intensified early this morning.

For several days, the capital has been experiencing a mix of overcast skies, sweltering heat, and sporadic rainfall.
