Shuvosangho active as flood victims in remote areas get food aid

No sooner had the vehicle stopped at Ashtajungal village of Bayek union under Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria, two children first came with a makeshift raft and then elders came there wading through waist-deep water as volunteers of Bashundhara Shuvosangho went to the remote village to distribute food among the stranded people.

The volunteers said that a raft is the only way to transport food items to the marooned people, and only 15 packets of dry food can be carried on the raft.

However, the volunteers did not relent and, drowning in the floodwaters, reached fifty houses in the village on August 27 in phases. Each food packet contained puffed rice (muri) and rice flakes (chira), toast biscuits, water, six food saline, two candles, and a kitchen matchbox.

Families from the villages expressed their gratitude upon receiving the food products. Expressing gratitude for the food assistance, Indrajit Sutradhar, a food aid recipient, said, “We are suffering from a shortage of fresh food and drinking water. The food aid has not reached us as the area is far away. We are very happy that you are coming.”

Shuvosangho also distributed 75 food packets to flood-affected disabled families and others, partnering with the Dream for Disability Foundation and Bini Animal Health.

The social welfare platform coordinated the programme while Hedayetul Aziz Munna, Md Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, Chayan Biswas, Zubair Noor, Md Masum, Md Razman, Md Kamal, among others, were present.
