Reform commission working to secure expats’ voting rights: Badiul Alam

The Election Reform Commission is actively working to ensure voting rights for Bangladeshi expatriates worldwide, reported Commission Chief Badiul Alam Majumder during a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Monday (Nov 4) in Dhaka. 

The commission is coordinating the voter list with national ID cards to facilitate this.

Majumder emphasized the importance of women’s participation in the election process, stating that steps are being taken to promote inclusivity. According to the Chief Adviser’s press wing, the commission is engaging with stakeholders through digital platforms to gather their suggestions.

Prof. Yunus also met with other commission heads at his Tejgaon office to review the progress of various reform initiatives. 

Police Reform Commission Chief Safar Raj Hossain reported that proposals are underway to revise crowd control tactics, with certain sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, under review for possible amendments.

Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Chief of the Public Administration Reform Commission, shared that their work has fully commenced, with public input gathered via the website. Commission members have visited districts and upazilas to engage directly with local communities, and discussions with various public administration representatives are ongoing.

The Public Administration Reform Commission is optimistic about completing its report within the given timeframe.
